How to Backup Your WordPress Blog

There are two different ways you can backup your wordpress blog. In this tutorial you will learn how to backup just your posts, comments, pages, etc. Then you will learn how to backup your database which is essential to know how to do when you go to upgrade your WordPress blog.

Backup Your Blog Files

If you are just wanting to keep a backup of your posts, pages, comments, of your blog, a simple export of your blog files will do as a sufficient blog backup.

In WordPress exporting your files is a very simple process once you know what you are doing.

Step 1. Log into your WordPress Dashboard. Here you will need to find the tab that says “Tools” once there click on “export”

Step 2. Next you will be asked to pick the author of the blog files, or posts, you will like to export. Once you have selected the author you will then click “Download Export File”:

There you will be promoted to save it to your computer. Once you have done this you are now complete with exporting your WordPress blog files!!

Backup Your WordPress Database

Every time we go to upgrade our WordPress Database we are prompted to first backup our database. However most people have no idea what that means, let alone how to backup their database. In this tutorial we are going to walk through how to backup your WordPress database via Cpanel.

Step 1. First you will need to log into your Cpanel dashboard. Log in information is typically provided by your website host if Cpanel is available to you. If it is not you can always contact your website host requesting your Cpanel log in information.

Once logged into your Cpanel you will then find the button titled Backup Wizard, click on this!

Step 2. Next you will want to click “backup.” Then choose partial backup – MySQL database.

Step 3. On the next page you will find a list of your databases. Click on the Worpdress database you would like to backup and your computer will begin to download the file.

Voila! You have now completed a WordPress Database, and are now on your way to becoming a WordPress Pro!
